Larry Lambert has a slogan he believes in: “Students know when we are not 100% in.”
The newly named interim superintendent for Chase County Schools (CCS) said that puts into perspective one of his thoughts on education as he assumes the top position at CCS, officially this Friday.
Lambert of Grand Island was officially hired Monday at a 7 a.m. special meeting of the CCS board of education, at which he was present.
Board members approved his contract of employment on a 6-0 vote. Three board members were absent.
Lambert will earn $80,000 during the rest of the 2019-20 school year. The contract expires on June 30, 2020.
Starting a third year in retirement, Lambert said he received a phone call about the CCS interim position, and was interested.
He and his wife Brenda drove to Imperial last week for an interview.
Board President Jeff Olsen said Lambert was one of two interviewed for the interim job. He said they utilized the Nebraska Association of School Boards (NASB) in acquiring one of the candidates.
“I’ve liked all I’ve seen here. “I’m glad I got to come out (for interview) when there were kids in the building,” Lambert said.
