The Imperial Republican sat down with Kevin Dannatt, the new student representative for the Imperial City Council, how he received the position, the goals he hopes to accomplish, and what is ahead in the future.
The first topic was on how he achieved his seat, which he informed the Republican was granted to him by Mayor Craig Loeffler. “He asked me if I would be willing to come down to one of their meetings and see what it was like” said Dannatt. “It helps the whole town by showing there’s a different point of view in the city council, not only as a young person, but a different person in general.” Though he is technically not an official member of the council, as he does not get to have a vote, he is allowed the opinion of himself and his representatives before an actual vote is cast.
The concept of being a new voice that brings a different perspective seemed to be deeply important to the council member, as it was independently addressed multiple times throughout the conversation. “I’m really hoping that this can help me grow into being able to see things in different ways and that it helps the community grow” he remarked.
For closing remarks, Dannatt called for the readers to remember that your voice does actually matter. “Sometimes standing up is the correct thing to do. While to yourself, your voice might seem small, having that voice really can change things and have an effect that’s bigger than you’d think it would.”
