Sidney, Ogallala too much for Longhorn basketball boys
The Sidney Red Raiders and Ogallala Indians showed why they are both undefeated on the year thus far. They both have very solid teams that play good defense and have some outstanding shooters.
The first half was costly for the Longhorns Friday against the Red Raiders. Turnovers proved costly for the Longhorns who gave up 21 which transitioned into 24 points for Sidney.
The Longhorn defense could only cause 11 turnovers and were only able to get 5 points off of them.
The Horns couldn’t get anything to fall in the first quarter, falling behind 4-15. Sidney kept the relentless pressure on in the second quarter, scoring 18 to Chase County’s 10 to make the halftime score 14-33.
The Longhorns made the right adjustments at half and out-scored the Red Raiders in both the third and fourth quarter. Unfortunately the hole from the first half was just too deep to get out of.
The Longhorns scored 26 in the second half compared to just 22 from Sidney but ended the game with a loss 40-55.
The Longhorns had two players score in double digits, Jensen Owens with 18 and Easton Fries with 12.
Sidney had the top scorer for the night with Isak Doty scoring 23 for Sidney.

On Saturday, Ogallala rolled into town. Last year the Indians handed the Longhorns one of the worst losses in a long time, winning by 60 points.
It was a much closer game this year but the Longhorns ended up on the wrong end of the 47-66 game.
Once again the points off of turnovers seemed to be the difference in the game. The Indians caused 21 turnovers and scored 30 points off them. The Longhorns caused 12 turnovers, scoring eight points off them.
The Longhorns fell behind 12-20 after the first quarter and held the deficit to eight at halftime 24-32.
In the third and fourth quarters the Indians just continued to pull away, out-scoring the Horns 23-34 in the second half.
Owens led the Longhorns in scoring again with 18. Caden Rezac led the Indians with 19, followed by Sawyer Smith with 18 and Jack Rezac with 16.
