CCS Longhorns third in Scottsbluff Silver Bracket

    The Lady Longhorns traveled to Scottsbluff Sept. 29 and 30 for the Invitational Tournament.
    On Friday teams played pool play which would place them in the gold or silver bracket.
    CCS had the first match with class B Gering (15-4). The Longhorns played good enough to stick with Gering but eventually fell in two sets 19-25 and 23-25.
    In the next match they faced class B Alliance (11-12). In the first set the Lady Longhorns tied the game at 23 and again at 24 before Alliance scored the final two points winning 24-26.  CCS couldn’t rebound from the loss and went down 19-25 in the second set.
    Their final match of the day was against St. Thomas More.The Ladies came out fired up and handled STM rather easily with scores of 25-12 and 25-19.
    On Saturday CCS found themselves in the silver bracket. Other teams in this bracket where Sidney, Torrington, Mitchell, Burns, St. Thomas More (STM), Rapid City Stevens (RCS) and McCook.
    The Longhorns would start with a rematch against STM. It was a much closer match but the Longhorns won 27-25 and 25-22.
    That put them in the semi-finals against RCS who defeated McCook in their first round.
    CCS played a good match but fell short to the eventual champions 23-25 in both sets.
    That dropped them to the third place match against Mitchell who had won over  Burns in their first round and fell to Sidney in the second.
    The Longhorns took the Tigers in straight sets with identical scores of 25-16 to capture third place in the Silver Bracket.
    The Longhorns traveled to North Platte on Tuesday for a triangular with St. Pats and Southwest. Results will be in next weeks paper.
    On Thursday the ladies traveled to Grant to take on the Plainsman.
