Oct. 7 Fundraiser planned for WSCCC

“Mexican Night” is the theme for a fund-raising event benefiting Western Sky Community Care Center, WSCCC, the new nursing home proposed for Perkins County. The event is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 7, beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the Perkins County Fairgrounds. Meal will be provided with free will offering.
Featuring Mexican foods, the event is being organized by Rodolfo Aragon, a member of the Fund Advisory Committee of the Perkins County Community Foundation Fund. Aragon stated that his wife, Vicky, was employed at the previous nursing home until it was closed and wanted to show support for the new project. “Vicky loved the work there and wanted to see the new nursing home project be successful.”
Aragon adds, “We want to celebrate together and at the same time help the community”, in support of WSCCC. “In our culture, elderly have a very special place, and what better way to honor them than giving them an outstanding care facility.”
Supporters can come any time after 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 7 at the Fairgrounds 4-H building. “People will be served until the food runs out,” according to Aragon. The Mexican theme was proposed to also commemorate Mexican Independence Day, which occurs in September.
Western Sky Community Care Center has secured 501-c-3 status allowing for tax deductible contributions. Over $1.6 million has been raised so far from local supporters. Architectural drawings for the new home are in progress as is final negotiation for a long-term loan with USDA Rural Development. Construction is likely to begin later in the year, according to WSCCC board chair, Mark Bottom.
