Enders Lake Golf regains Chase County Cup with commanding win

    Enders Lake Golf Course golfers brought the Chase County Cup back to Enders Saturday with a commanding win over the Imperial Country Club team.
    Saturday’s playing of the Cup at the Enders Lake Golf Course marked the 22nd playing of the annual event. Enders evened out the series, with each team winning the cup 11 times.
    Over the course of the event, the host team holds the advantage, winning 14 of the 22 years, including the last four years straight.
    Enders’ 17-7 win represents the second largest margin of victory.  In 2018, Imperial won 17.5-6.5 on their home course for the largest margin of victory.
    The match play competition consists of twosome best ball and alternating shot team matches, followed by head-to-head singles matches. Each match is worth one point.
    In best ball, each team won three matches. Enders built a big 8-4 cushion going in the singles matches by winning five of the six matches in alternating shot.
    Last year, Imperial won nine of the 12 single matches on their home course in a 15.5-8.5 win. Enders returned the favor Saturday, winning nine of the 12 matches to regain the cup with the 17-7 advantage.
    Imperial needed at least 12 points to hold on to the cup.
    Enders Lake golfers included  Troy Space, Joel Burke, Matt Klima, Jim Knotwell, Matt Hanna, Eric Exum, Matt Teply, Trevor Amen, Rick Einspahr, Joe Johnston, Joe Humphrey and Matt Howard.  Rogan Einspahr served as the non-playing captain.
    Golfers for the Imperial Country Club included Tom Luhrs, Jim Pirog, Russ Pankonin, Brad Spady, Kirk Wilson, Dan Russell, Aaron Cyboron, Eric McDaniel, Jason Burke, Derek Russell, Travis Wheeler and Bruce Wheeler. Chris Lee served as the non-playing captain.
