Lady Broncos win one, lose two at Hitchcock Co. Invite

Wauneta-Palisade Lady Broncos traveled to the Hitchcock County Invite Saturday Sept. 9.
In the first round the Broncos faced off against Arapahoe. The Broncos held on to the momentum in the first set taking a 25-15 win.
The second set was much closer. Arapahoe was not going down without a fight keeping the outcome a mystery until the Lady Broncos pulled away at the end to take the set 25-22 and win the match.
Next up was class D-1 Axtell (5-2) whose only losses had come to Overton (9-0) and Sumner-Eddyville-Miller (8-2).
After getting off to a slow start the Lady Broncos got back in the game but Axtell cruised to a 18-25 win in set one.
In set two the lead shifted back and forth and the game came down to the wire. The Lady Broncos were tied at 24 but the Wildcats scored two straight to close out the set and match.
The Broncos faced the host Hitchcock County Falcons. In a match that seemed to put two very similar teams as far as talent up against one another the match did not disappoint.
Wauneta got on a surge towards the end of the first set and finished it out 25-20.
In the second set both teams struggled to pull away. The teams were tied at 24 and again at 26 when the Falcons scored two straight and got the second set win.
Hitchcock County rode that momentum in the third set with a 16-25 win to take down the Lady Broncos.
The Broncos record sits at (5-5) going into the next match.
