Workers with Midlands Contracting of Kearney were laying new concrete Tuesday after they had to dig into the street to extend sewer service to Dennis Kunnemann’s WellPark housing project.

Sewer being extended for WellPark housing project

Portions of streets have been closed the past week and a half as sewer extension work began for the WellPark housing development project between Wellington and Park Sts., south of 12th Street.
Midlands Contracting of Kearney was hired and is being paid by developer Dennis Kunnemann for the sewer extension from the city of Imperial system to the property he’s developing for homes.
The property being developed lies between Wellington and Park Sts. and once served as Chase County’s high school football field.
The underground pipe is being laid to extend sewer lines to the individual lots as requested by Kunnemann, according to Imperial Public Works Supt. Pat Davison.
In order for the work to progress, parts of East 11th Street and half-block sections along Wellington Street have been closed since work got underway May 8.
Cement to repair East 11th Street was being poured Tuesday this week. Davison said the streets will remain closed in that area west of the field for about another week as the concrete sets.
Midlands Contracting was also hired by the city of Imperial in a separate bid for laying a new water main from Shorthorn Street east along 12th Street to Highway 61, which will connect two current dead-ended loops in the city water system.
Davison expects Midlands to start the city project once finished with the sewer extension.
