Zuege, Tyerman newest Outstanding Citizens

Based on their nominations, the 2023 city of Imperial-sponsored Outstanding Citizens are people all of us would count our blessings knowing.
Chelsea Zuege and Mason Tyerman were chosen by the city council Monday for the annual recognition sponsored by the city of Imperial.
They were picked from a group of nominations from citizens.
Zuege, art teacher at Chase County Schools, is the adult selection, while Tyerman, a CCS junior, is the youth recipient (18 and younger).
The pair will be presented awards and plaques at a future city council meeting, said Clerk/Administrator Jo Leyland, and in August, will grace a city float in the Chase County Fair Parade.
Zuege was actually the subject in three nominations, all of them touting her generous spirit, willingness to share her art talents and, as a tireless teacher, “going above and beyond.”
Her nominations noted the many contributions she makes to her church, St. Patrick’s, “baking, singing and serving” and “even repainting Holy Family statues for her church family.”
She’s served as a Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge sponsor, is a SCORE camp volunteer, past pool manager and was active in getting the city’s art park painted.
Zuege also shares her art as a regular window painter promoting the Chase County Fair, and has been a “basketball coach’s biggest fan.” Last summer, she assisted in hosting Imperial’s Legion baseball tournament.
“Chelsea gives unselfishly of her time and talents to this community and is more than deserving of adding ‘outstanding’ to her list of unofficial titles,” one nomination reads.
Another nomination says, “Her heart is as pure as I’ve ever been blessed to know. She would give the shirt off her back to someone in need.”
Tyerman was noted in his nomination as someone who is “outstanding” because of the leadership he has shown at such a young age.
“Mason is an outstanding young leader in the community who is always eager to ‘pitch in’ and is a reliable volunteer,” the nomination reads.
It continued, “Mason has already helped improve the community for everyone.”
Tyerman is the current student representative for the Imperial Community Foundation Fund, and also serves as vice-president of the Imperial FFA chapter, while being active in other extracurriculars at CCS.
He’s been to FFA nationals as a member of the parliamentary procedure team, which last fall, earned a silver in the national competition in Indianapolis.
The CCS junior operates his own lawn care business, and was instrumental in starting a new club at the school that promotes young entrepreneurship. He encourages its members to attend Imperial Chamber of Commerce meetings.
“He’s always willing to share the lessons he learned,” the nomination concluded.
