The Chase County Treasurer’s Office has received Nebraska’s newest standard license plate, which features a State Capitol design with a white background and navy lettering.

New plates out first of year

The year 2023 marks the beginning of the new license plate issuance cycle in Nebraska.
The Chase County Treasurers Office has received their shipment of the new plates. Becky Bernard said they will begin distributing them the first of January.
The new white and navy design was revealed earlier this year by Gov. Pete Ricketts and first lady Susanne Shore, who led the design project. The plate pictures a backdrop of an original mosaic displayed on the State Capitol floor near the rotunda, which pictures a man riding atop the clouds across the sky.
Since the last plate issuance year in 2017, license plate options have significantly increased with the expansion of the number of available specialty plates.
Registration renewal including reissuance of license plates can be completed online at dmv.nebraska.gov/services.
Nebraskans renewing vehicle registrations and want the standard plate or to retain their current specialty plate do not need to place any special orders, according to the DMV.
There are 52 different specialty plates available.
“Nebraskans have more options for vehicle license plates than ever before,” said Rhonda Lahm, Director of the DMV.         “Planning ahead will help us serve you more efficiently if you choose to order a specialty plate,” she added.
It takes five weeks to process, produce and deliver specialty plates so the order needs to be received by the DMV 5-6 weeks before drivers plan to register their vehicle.
The quickest and easiest way to order a specialty plate is to go online at dmv.nebraska.gov/services, she said.
The specialty plates will be delivered to the local county treasurer’s office, and people will be notified when their plates are ready for pick up.
The Nebraska DMV in conjunction with the state’s county treasurer offices will issue over 2.2 million plates in 2023.
