Fire destroys Stehno home in Wauneta

A late Tuesday afternoon fire has claimed the home and belongings of Brent and Darr Stehno.
The family’s home south of Wauneta on Old Veterans Highway caught fire around 4:30 p.m. Darr Stehno said, at this time, it’s believed to have started in the home’s laundry room due to an electrical issue.
The couple was home with children Emily, Blake and Kinsley, plus daughter Chloe who was visiting.
Located in the Stratton Fire District, Palisade and Wauneta departments also responded, Stehno said.
The Wauneta Volunteer Fire Department sent a tanker truck for reinforcement.
Stehno said they are grateful for those who answered the call.
Donations for the family are being arranged by Sam Sutherland and RaNae Richardson, who each work with Stehno at Wauneta Care and Therapy Center in Wauneta. Donations can be dropped off at WCTC or at Sodtown Sundries in Palisade.
