WP wrestlers take on stacked invite at SV

With Southern Valley being a big tournament with new opponents, Wauneta-Palisade wrestling coach Danny Schluckebier said the tournament can be a punch in the gut or a pat on the back.
“I think this year it was both,” he said.
Schluckebier thought his team wrestled better than it did last week despite some team members who are sick.
Konner McCrumb went 2-2 at 106 lbs.
Schluckebier said K. McCrumb wrestled great against some good opponents and he expects K. McCrumb to keep stepping up to the challenges as he gets more experience.
Trey McCrumb was 2-2 at 182 lbs. with both losses coming to ranked opponents.
    T. McCrumb has taken a step forward in his preparation this year, Schluckebier said, and looks like he is ready to continue to push forward into the season doing what is necessary.
“Trey’s gone from one or very few wins last year, to a strong and solid wrestler who’s knows how to get stuff done this year,” Schluckebier.
Bobby Chism, 106 lbs; Andrew Muckety, 120 lbs.; Blake Nickerson, 182 lbs.; and Draven Miner, 220 lbs., each went 0-2.
Schluckebier sees the positives in each of his wrestlers, from Chism’s heart to Muckety’s intelligence that will grow with experience.
In Nickerson’s first tournament of the year, Schluckebier said the freshman showed some nerves, but he expects Nickerson to battle everyone his faces this season.
Miner lost his first match of the tournament to Class C #2 Jaret Peterson before facing a familiar opponent, Medicine Valley’s Aspen Henderson in his second match.
Schluckebier said Miner wrestled some very little experienced kids, he has very experience under his belt.
“Dre is learning that he can compete with them and he has what it takes to win,” Schluckebier said.
While Schluckebier said WP wrestled well the day gave the coaches and team clear signs of what they need to work on and what they need to do to prepare for the Sutherland Invite Saturday. The meet will start at 9 a.m. MT.
Sutherland runs a large meet and the Broncos see teams that are closer to their home, he said.
“It will be a great day with a lot of wrestling and hopefully a lot of confidence and learning still,” Schluckebier said.
