Peterson, Murray are October PBIS Students of Month

A Chase County Schools junior and sophomore—Jaret Peterson and Matthew Murray—are the October PBIS Students of the Month, chosen by staff at the school.
Jaret is a CCS junior, and the son of Crystal and Bruce Peterson.
Jaret is a true leader in the  school, according to his nominations.
Carl Zuege, social studies teacher and coach at CCS, said, “Jaret is a positive influence in our hallways. Younger students look to Jaret as a role model, and he has grown into a consistently positive force in our school.
“I see Jaret interacting with students of all ages, and on several occasions I have observed him making a special effort to chat with some students who don’t otherwise have a great deal of positive interactions in their school days. Jaret certainly embodies the qualities we are looking for in our student of the month winners,” Zuege said.
Physical education teacher and coach Nathan Gaswick had this to say about Jaret:
“Jaret has faced a lot of adversity throughout this school year and football season and has demonstrated to others what it means to handle adversity in a positive manner. There was never a point where anyone questioned Jaret’s commitment level to our team even when he was not able to participate as he stepped in and helped coach others and organize scout teams. I believe he helped demonstrate to many other players that you are still valuable to a team even when you are not the one on the field making plays.
“Jaret’s commitment level extends far beyond the playing areas as he continues to take the same leadership and commitment levels in the classroom as well as in the community. He is a 4.0+ student and was another one of the players who helped commit time to the youth flag football program during the weekends. Jaret demonstrates the qualities that all coaches and teachers seek in Longhorn student athletes,” Gaswick said.
He is a member of the FBLA, as well as excelling in football, wrestling and track and field.
Matthew is a sophomore at CCS, and is the son of Josie and Brett Murray.
It has been Matt’s willingness to serve and help others that stands out to the CCS staff, according to his nominations.
Math teacher and coach Karli Hale said this about him:
“Matt is always willing to get up and help other students with their math when I’m busy working with someone else. The other day he even went up to the whiteboard and started working out one of the problems for the class when a bunch of people were stuck on the same thing,” she said.
Likewise, science teacher and coach Justin Anderson wrote this about Matthew:
“Matt has gone above and beyond my expectations in class, not only in his own work, but in helping others. When he finished our last project I observed Matt going around and helping his fellow classmates out with theirs. He was getting people materials, cutting out pictures for his classmates and just jumping in when someone needed help,” Anderson said.
Matt is a member of FBLA, and will be participating in basketball and golf programs this year.
