Wauneta-Palisade volleyball looking for wins

Southwest Nebraska and the RPAC conference have no lack of quality volleyball teams this season and Wauneta-Palisade took on two of the best last week.
A week after playing ranked Southwest and Maywood/Hayes Center, the Broncos played Paxton, which just fell out of the Class D2 rankings, and Wallace, the team that replaced them.
WP lost to Wallace (16-2) 19-25, 17-25 in the first round of the Paxton Tournament Sept. 20. Wallace went on to hand Potter-Dix its first loss of the season in the championship match.
WP trailed the Wildcats 13-14 in the first set, but two runs by Wallace put the set out of reach. The second set was tied at 11 before Wallace pulled away.
The Broncos fell 25-21, 20-25 and 17-25 to Paxton in the consolation game.
The teams traded serves to a 6-6 tie. WP got some breathing room at 14-12 and took the win. The Broncos led set two 13-11, but Paxton was able to force a third set. Paxton used two big runs to leave the Broncos on the short end of the stick in the third set.
Saturday the team took part in the Bertrand Tournament.
    WP beat 6-12 Kenesaw 25-20 and 25-23.
Halle Bardsley broke open a 20-20 tie in the first set with five-straight serves to give WP the win. Set two went down to the wire. The Broncos led 22-16, but had to hold off Kenesaw at the end to take the match.
The Broncos dropped their match with 9-6 Pleasanton 18-25 and 20-25.
