Commissioners in Dundy County set another Blackshirt Feeders hearing

Dundy County Commissioners will hear from members of the public once more concerning the proposed Blackshirt Feeders LLC feedlot.
Dundy County Planning and Zoning Commission approved Blackshirt Feeders’ conditional use permit Feb. 1 for a 100,000-head feedlot along the Dundy and Chase County line.
The commissioners held a public hearing March 16, then voted 2-1 on April 5 to deny the CUP.
Dundy County Attorney Gary Burke issued a public memorandum at the April 18 commissioners’ meeting stating he believed there are shortcomings with the April 5 meeting.
At their May 2 meeting, the commissioners approved 2-1 to add to their May 16 meeting “a reconsideration and possible additional meetings and possible revote on the Blackshirt Feeder’s Proposal.”
Richard Bartholomew and Jerry Fries voted for the motion. Scott Olson voted no.
That plan was put on hold because officials failed to allow 10 days to advertise the meeting.
The board will now hold a public hearing June 6 at 1:30 p.m. in the courtroom of the Dundy County Courthouse.
Olson said even though the commissioners’ original public hearing was run correctly, they thought it would be fair to go through everything again and listen to the pros and cons.
