Commissioners cover variety of topics

From repairs to the county’s bulldozer to discussion on ambulance billing, Chase County Commissioners Jacci Brown, Duane Dinnel and Dennis Kunnemann held discussions about an assortment of subjects at their regular meeting May 24.
With county employees voicing concerns about the county’s dozer, the commissioners had a CAT technician perform an inspection.
Three possibilities—fixing it, trading it or seeing what happens were offered. The board approved changing fluids in the dozer and to have employees perform regular visual inspections to see if problems get worse.
Roads secretary Tori Otzel talked to the commissioners about the process of billing for ambulance calls and suggested switching to an outside company for the task. After discussion, the board will look into a collection agency to help with unpaid claims.
Crissy Davis attended the meeting’s open forum to talk about the county’s switch to Hitch and Hay Public Transit.
Davis voiced concerns about transit lacking flexibility notice and the billing process.
Until the switch is made, the county can’t be sure about what will happen.
The board approved Karen Baker’s request for juvenile services to use an office in the extension building Fridays over the summer from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The program sees students at Chase County Schools during the school year.
The commissioners also discussed the county’s policy, or lack thereof, for personal driveways. Dinnel brought up the use of multiple driveways or turn-ins to fields across county right of way, as well as maintenance of culverts under driveways.
Dinnel wants something definite so everyone gets treated the same.
The next meeting of the commissioners will be June 14 at 8 a.m.
