Walker, Cox heading to state for WP

Grant Walker is returning to Omaha for the Wauneta-Palisade boys’ track team and Peyton Cox earned a spot in Omaha as an additional qualifier.
Qualifications came at the District D7 meet last Thursday in Cambridge.
Walker has battled an ab injury for most of the season, but still qualified in the 100- and 200-meter dashes. Walker ran his second fastest time of the season in the 100-meter dash and won by nearly 0.1.
Walker hadn’t run the 200-meter dash since April 14, but was able to claim second place and an automatic berth to Omaha.
    P. Cox placed fourth in shot put with a season’s best throw at Cambridge. She ended up being one of four from the RPAC and district to book a trip at the state meet in shot put.
Top finishers for WP include a third place finish by the girls’ 1,600-meter relay, Brooke Knotts, Ryleigh McCrumb, Alexa Sandman and Jewel Holthus, and a fourth place finish by the 400-meter relay team, Sandman, Cali Cox, Halle Bardsley and Knotts.
Other top five finishes went to Holthus in the 400-meter dash, Sandman in the 100-meter hurdles and GraCee Goings in discus.
Classes C and D will compete Friday and Saturday at Burke Stadium. Walker will have prelims Friday and P. Cox will throw Saturday.
