‘Watz Up’ summer series offers variety
Pre-registration has started at Mid Plains Community College in Imperial for summer classes geared toward youths ages 5 to 14.
Here is a summary of each class.
The first class will be held on June 1 from 10 - 11:30 a.m.
The Blooming Box—Presented by Trisha Dorn, for ages 5-12.
Participants will decorate a flowerpot, plant flowers and learn how to care for them. The cost is $35 with flowerpots, flowers and soil provided by S & T Ventures and 3 Country Chicks.
Junior Golf Basics—Scheduled for June 15 at Enders Lake Golf Course.
The basics of golf will be taught to players of all levels from first-time beginners to more experienced players with hands-on instruction at the driving range and chipping/putting green. Clubs are recommended but not required.
Age groups are as follows:
5-7 / 8:30-9:30 a.m. / $20
8-10 / 10-11:30 a.m. / $25
11-14 / 1-3 p.m. / $30
Fireworks Safety—This class is June 27 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. and is free of charge for ages 5 and older.
The Imperial Volunteer Fire Department and Imperial EMS personnel will be sharing some firework safety tips and information and will cover a broad overview of how to properly and safely light and use fireworks. They will also cover the dangers and possible consequences of mishandling fireworks.
Sitter Sense Babysitting Workshop—On June 29 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., taught by Debbie Kuenning from the UNL Extension Office for ages 10-13. Youths who are babysitting now or who are thinking about caring for young children in the future are encouraged to attend this workshop.
Students will participate in hands-on activities and prepare their own lunch. Cost is $40.
4th of July Cookie Decorating—On June 30 from 9-10:30 a.m., Peggy Fitzke will be holding a class for ages 8 and up. Students will create decorated cookies at a beginner level for the 4th of July holiday. No prior knowledge is required. The cost is $25.
Beginning Robotics for Youths—For ages 7-9 held on July 12 and 14 from 10 to noon. Chance Thayer will be teaching about robotics from a beginner level, and students will learn about robotic building and programming with Lego EV3 technology. Registration for this class is $30.
Summer of Sketches Art Workshop—July 18 to 22. Carissa Hill and Ashley Burrows will be guiding students through a fun week of exploring the crazy creativeness of art. This workshop will offer fun interactions with friends, imaginative art projects and entertaining art games. Classes for ages 7-9 will be from 9-11 a.m. Classes for ages 10-12 will be from 1-3 p.m. Cost is $55.
Sizzle and Stomp Dance—For participants who have completed 5th-8th grades will be held July 26-28. Vanessa Terryberry will be teaching students trendy and unique dance moves. Attendance is required for all three sessions.
Classes will be held July 26 and 27 from 8 a.m. to noon, and on July 28 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Unless otherwise specified, all classes will be held at MPCC Imperial campus at 1324 Broadway.
