Learn how to start childcare business at workshop in Grant

    An informational workshop, “Starting an in-home childcare business: Could this be the career for you?” will be held from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 21, at Perkins County High School in Grant.
    There is no cost to attend, and breakfast will be provided.
    With adequate and quality childcare in demand in counties across the state, including  Chase, Perkins and Keith counties, the Ogallala campus of Mid-Plains Community College and Educational Service Unit 16 have partnered to  present information on the benefits and challenges of starting an in-home care center.
    Topics to be covered include the importance of quality childcare, the ideal qualities of a provider and the beneficiaries of quality childcare.
    Information also will be provided on the definition of family home childcare and the steps required for licensing.
    Presenters will represent the Nebraska Early Childhood Collaborative, the Nebraska Early Learning Connection and the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services.
    A retired childcare professional also will talk about the importance of providers recognizing their childcare home as a small business and will share tips on communication and contracts.
    All participants will receive a copy of the book, “From Babysitting to Business,” and current licensed providers will earn three hours of continuing education credit.
