Brice Vitosh, shown putting at the DCS Invite, earned a top 20 finish at the SPVA conference championships.

Wisnieski eighth at SPVA golf

Although storms blew across the western half of Nebraska Friday, the SPVA golf tournament went off without a hitch.
Chase County Assistant Coach Vanessa Taylor said the conference was lucky to have a decent day in Kimball for golf.
“We missed out on the majority of the rain that was an issue here for SPVA track. It was windy in the afternoon, but compared to some of the other windy days we’ve had so far this season it wasn’t too bad,” Taylor said.
The Longhorns are getting used to playing in less-than-ideal conditions when it comes to wind, she said.
North Platte St. Pat’s won the team championship by 21 strokes over Bridgeport, 346-367. Perkins County was third, shooting 384 on the day.
Kyle Lusche of Kimball and Teegan Sonneman of St. Pat’s tied for the individual title with scores of 78.
Taylor said the team held a playoff early last week. After looking over scores, Taylor determined who would be attending based on those scores, plus averages from the previous meets CCS had this season, she said.
Chase County was led by Gavin Wisnieski who finished eighth with a 93.
Varsity golfers on the course included Brice Vitosh, 106; Kade Vogt, 109; Nickolas Rau, 112; and Jesse Krausnick, 113. CCS also took Matthew Murray, 109, and Jesus Juarez-Gamboa, 123, as JV golfers.
Taylor said she was very impressed with everyone’s performance.
“Gavin and Brice both carded their best scores of the season, with a 93 and 106, respectively. Jesse stayed consistent to his average score of a 113, and Kaden and Nick both played solid rounds with a 110 and 112,” Taylor said.
Taylor said the JV players also stepped up their game at this course and she was extremely impressed with Matthew Murray’s 109.
“He has played very well this year as a freshman and continues to hug the line between varsity and JV. Jesus Juarez Gamboa, at only his second full 18-hole meet, shot a very respectable 123,” Taylor added.
The course gave the Longhorns a different look from what they’ve seen this season.
“The Kimball course provided some new challenges that we haven’t faced yet this season, specifically with a lot of elevation changes. Several holes were played uphill, or had a tee box or green set at a very different elevation than the rest of the hole,” Taylor said.
With the majority of the courses the Longhorns have played on thus far have been pretty flat, Taylor said this was a really good experience for CCS golfers to see something new.
With the postseason scheduled to begin May 16 at Valentine, the Longhorns will continue to prepare at upcoming tournaments.
The JV team traveled to the Creek Valley Invite in Chappell Tuesday.
Thursday CCS will be the invitational in North Platte at River’s Edge Golf Club.
