Wauneta-Palisade freshman Grayden Sutherland hands off to classmate Collin Bley in the 1,600-meter relay at the Hitchcock County invite.

Broncos hoping to get healthy heading into Thursday’s RPAC meet

With its conference meet looming in front of them, the Wauneta-Palisade track teams are setting their sites on getting healthy for Thursday’s RPAC meet.
WP Head Coach Dawn Doetker said WP has been nursing some sore muscles over the last couple meets as the team continues to strive for peaking in May.
Doetker was grateful for a nicer day Wednesday at the Hitchcock County Invite.
She especially liked having a smaller meet with only five teams in attendance.
“With so many freshmen this year it helped them to not feel so overwhelmed,” Doetker said, adding she was pleased with the way her teams competed.
Grant Walker took home the boys’ team’s only first place finish with a win in the 100-meter dash.
Alexa Sandman picked up a win for the girls’ team with a victory in the 100-meter hurdles and Jewel Holthus won the 400-meter dash.
The Broncos also scored several second place finishes, including Brooke Knotts, 200-meter dash; Ryleigh McCrumb, 400-meter run; Peyton Cox, shot put; Jacksen Littrel, discus; and Kyle Jutten, high jump.
WP was runner-up in all three girls’ relays. Running on the 400-meter relay was Sandman, Cali Cox, Ryleigh McCrumb and Knotts. On the 1,600-meter team were Knotts, Holthus, Sophia Alfayo and McCrumb. Members of the 3,200-meter team were Holthus, Izzy Stehno, Alfayo and Kiley Anderson.
WP is now focused on the RPAC meet in Bertrand.
The meet is scheduled for a 10 a.m. start. Hitchcock County Invite results:
