Four seniors headline Broncos’ track rosters

Track season has been slow to get started at Wauneta-Palisade, according to Broncos’ Head Coach Dawn Doetker.
“We started practice on the March 7, but with the snow, school was called off and then there was Spring Break,” Doetker said.
When able to practice, however, things are going well, she added, as the Broncos get into their routines.
Doetker said there’s lots of interest in different events.
“We are very excited to see what different events we can place at track meets,” Doetker said.
The Broncos have three seniors on the boys’ side, Grant Walker, Laiden Lawler and Aiden Kennicutt, and one on the girls’ squad, Alexa Sandman.
“We have great leadership from the returning letter winners and I know we are going to have a great season,” Doetker said.
Besides the seniors, returning letterwinners are juniors Kyle Jutten, Jacksen Littrel, Cali Cox and Halle Bardsley and sophomores Ryleigh McCrumb, GraCee Goings and Peyton Cox.
Thirteen freshmen reported for the season, which Doetker said is exciting.
Walker returns as the Broncos’ only state qualifier after running in the 100 and 200-meter dashes last May.
Doetker said her teams’ will be versatile this year. She expects to fill three athletes in most events.
The season’s typical first meet at Hitchcock County was scheduled for yesterday, but was canceled for this year.
Instead, the Broncos first meet will be the Sutherland Invite April 2.
WP will head to Benkelman for the Dundy County Stratton Invite, then make back-to-back trips to Cambridge for the Don Stine Invite April 9 then the Medicine Valley Invite April 14. The Medicine Valley meet has been held at McCook in the past.
The RPAC meet will be held this year in Bertrand.
This year’s D-7 district track meet will be at Cambridge.
Also in the district are Arapahoe, Bertrand, Cambridge, Dundy County Stratton, Hitchcock County, Loomis, Maywood-Hayes Center, Medicine Valley, Southwest and Wallace
As it was last year, the state track meet will run over the course of four days, May 18-21.
Unlike years in the past, Class D will no longer compete in the same session as Class A.
This year Classes A and B will be on the first two days of the meet and Classes C and D will be on the last two days, May 20-21.
