Wicke brothers give boost to NE Community Foundation

Hank and Dale Wicke of Wauneta have provided a big donation to the Nebraska Community Foundation.
Proceeds from the farm machinery sale at their Jan. 22 farm sale was gifted to NCF in the interest of supporting the local area.
The Wicke brothers were featured this month in Successful Farming magazine about the recent NCF gift.
According to the story written by Bill Spiegel, the NCF proceeds will be used locally to fund scholarships to young people who plan to attend college or technical school after high school.
Hank Wicke said they have left some details to the NCF on how the funds will be used, but requested money go to youth scholarships in six southwest Nebraska counties—Chase, Dundy, Hitchcock, Hayes, Red Willow and Frontier.
The Wicke brothers are both bachelors. The story noted none of their nieces or nephews want to farm, so the farm sale was scheduled with NCF in mind.
“It’s kind of sad there’s no Wicke to take over,” Hank said in the Successful Farming story.
Both men returned to the family farm after service in the military, and farmed for 60 years, most recently raising wheat and corn on the farm, nine miles south of Wauneta in Dundy County.
