Bronco girls beat RPAC opponents

The Wauneta-Palisade girls’ basketball team improved to 8-4 last week with wins over Hitchcock County and Southwest.
WP took on the Falcons in a  Friday evening clash in Trenton.
The Broncos jumped out to a 10-2 lead, but saw Hitchcock County score five straight points to close the gap. WP responded with another 10-2 run to cap a 20-9 first quarter. Peyton Cox scored nine points in the game’s first eight minutes.
WP relied on its defense to extend its lead before halftime. The Broncos only allowed two points by Hitchcock County, while three pointers by GraCee Goings and Cali Cox helped extend WP’s lead to 31-11.
Offensive production continued to be high in the second half. P. Cox contributed seven points and Alexa Sandman three points coming out of halftime as WP extended its lead to 50-20 heading into the fourth quarter.
Cruising along to a 68-28 win, WP Head Coach Matt Cox cleared his bench in the fourth quarter.
Coach Cox had plenty to be happy with in the scoring column as four Broncos finished in double figures. P. Cox led the way with 20 points, Chloe Stehno added 13 points, C. Cox 11 and Sandman 10 points.
WP had a taller task Saturday when Southwest made the trip to Wauneta.
Getting off to a good start made all the difference in the game.
Each WP starter scored in the first quarter and the trend of the Broncos heading to the charity stripe started early in the game.
