Chase County girls roll to big wins at DCS, Kimball

    The Chase County girls’ basketball team started the new year off in style, cruising to big wins at Dundy County Stratton and Kimball last week.
    In their first action in the new year, Chase County dominated the Tigers in Benkelman Jan. 4.
    Bryn McNair scored 14 of Chase County’s 18 first quarter points.
    After giving up eight points in the first quarter, the Longhorns put the clamps on Dundy County Stratton for the remainder of the game and only gave up 20 points total.
    Jordan Jablonski hit her stride in the second quarter, scoring six of her nine points in the eight-minute span.
    Despite all of Chase County’s starters only playing three quarters, the Longhorns were still able to put 60 points on the board thanks to nine players scoring in the game.
    McNair finished with a team-high 22 points and 10 rebounds.
    The Longhorns dominated the game across the board, out rebounding DCS 33-15, scoring 11 second chance points to none for the Tigers and outscoring Dundy County Stratton 22-7 on points off turnovers in the 60-20 win.
    Longhorn starters only played in two quarters Saturday at SPVA foe Kimball, but their win was just as decisive.
    Kimball scored twice in the first 1:15 of the game, then didn’t score again for the rest of the first quarter.
    Three pointers by Jablonski and Joee Clevenger backed up a 12-point first quarter by McNair.
    Kimball scored once more early in the second quarter, but Chase County’s defense locked down once more and held Kimball scoreless for over seven minutes.
    Chase County led 45-6 at halftime and cruised to a 60-19 win.
    Overall, eight Longhorns scored in the first half. Eleven of the 12 players on the varsity bench scored in the game.
    McNair scored 17 points in two quarters of action to lead the Longhorns. Jablonski and Morgan Peterson each scored eight points.
Up next
    Now 9-3, CCS hit the road to Southern Valley (7-4) Tuesday.
    On Thursday, the Longhorns will be on the road once more, this time to 7-4 Perkins County. Friday Chase County will host 8-3 Gothenburg.
    The Longhorns (9-3, 43.500) will being play in the SPVA tournament Jan. 17.
    CCS is sitting in good position to host a first round game.
    Bridgeport still sits in the driver’s seat of the conference.
    The Bulldogs (9-1, 46.200), which beat CCS at home in overtime  Dec. 21, lost their first game of the season to Hastings Adams Central (9-1) at the Nebraska Girls Basketball Showcase in Kearney Saturday 46-50. Bridgeport is ranked second in C2 and Adams Central is fifth in Class B.
    St. Pat’s (7-5, 43.333), Hershey (8-3, 42.6364) and Perkins County (7-4, 41.000) are hot on the Longhorns’ heels.
