Mid-Plains ready for variety of community education classes

The Mid-Plains Community College Imperial Campus has released a list of its 2022 community classes with the first ones beginning Feb. 15.
“Healthy Foods Fast” will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. on Feb. 15.
Nancy Frecks will be teaching basic skills and recipes to use with multi-cooker appliances such as an instant pot.  Samples will be included.
Feb. 17 during the same time frame, Frecks will be holding a class on “Selling Food Safely.”
Cottage Food Producer training will help producers understand the regulations to sell homemade foods in Nebraska.
This class is an accredited food safety training by the Nebraska Department of Agriculture specific to Nebraska laws.
Homemade/homegrown  food sales can have three different audiences, said Tyler Pribbeno, Community Development Director, and there are specific safety rules geared toward each, although they have similarities.
Whether you sell homemade baked goods on Facebook, home grown produce at a farmer’s market or food at an established business, it’s important to know the facts.         “With the popularity of our farmers market and it’s gaining interest, it only makes sense to hold a class to benefit people who want to know how to prepare, store and sell their product,” said MPCC Imperial campus coordinator Brenda Ledall.
From March 1 to April 19, Carol Kunnemann will teach a class titled “Circle of Security.” The class addresses what children might need based on research on how to support a secure parent-child relationship.
“Propaganda in the Third Reich” will be taught by Renae Bottom on Mondays beginning March 21 and continues to April 11.
It is a four-week course exploring the propaganda techniques used by the Nazi Party in comparison to media in the present day.
For sleuthing enthusiasts, Whitney Soper will teach a four-week course exploring detective fiction from the 19th century to present day called “Great Detectives of Film and Literature.”
The class will be held on Tuesdays beginning March 22 and continues to April 12.
“Just before Christmas, a Christmas cookie decorating class was held, and there was such a big turnout, we had to have a waiting list,” Ledall said.
Since it was so popular, there will be an “Easter Cookie Decorating” class on April 11, so sign up soon, she added.
Peggy Fitzke of Imperial will teach the class.
On April 27, MPCC will be hosting an event for Administrative Professionals Day,. Businesses can register their office assistant and send them for a morning of celebration, said Ledall.
There will be brunch, a motivational speaker and a gift of gratitude. Register by April 13.

For-credit classes will begin with Sunday classes on Jan. 16 and regular classes on Jan. 17.
