Dual, invite highlight start of WP wrestling season

    Wauneta-Palisade wrestlers had plenty of opportunities to pick of their first wins of the season last week.
    The Broncos started off at the Maxwell Duals Thursday.
    WP beat Medicine Valley 30-12 in round one. Trey McCrumb at 170 lbs, Conner Bryner at 182 lbs and Ethan Carl at 195 lbs each pinned their opponent.
    The Broncos lost to Maxwell, Dundy County Stratton and Alma.
    Bryner won his matches in those three duals by fall. McCrumb and Carl won their matches against DCS.
    WP won three of five matches, but two Bronco forfeits made the difference.
    Friday WP headed to Elwood for the Hi-Line Invite.
    Bryner at 170 lbs and Carl at 195 lbs each advanced to the consolation semifinals.

Up next
    The Broncos will travel to Southern Valley Friday for the Eagles’ invite.
    Twenty-one schools are scheduled to attend.
    The tournament will also feature a girls’ division with eight teams scheduled, Atwood-Rawlins County, Kansas; Axtell; Centura; Chase county; Norton Community, Kansas; Red Cloud-Blue Hill; Sedwick County, Colorado and Sutherland.
    WP’s final tournament before the new year will be Dec. 18 at Sutherland.
