Chase County Schools has launched two new student clubs this school year.
The new clubs include the high school multicultural club and a junior high art club.
Middle school art teacher Kaylee Gill is sponsoring the art club for 7th and 8th grades.
“I started the art club to be able to give kids a fun and safe place to be themselves and create various art works,” said Gill.
There was a high demand from the junior high students wanting an art club, Gill said, and she thought it would be a great addition to Chase County Schools.
“My goal is to provide students with different ways to express themselves freely through art,” she said.
A long term goal is to get the art club involved with the community and create art work for Imperial, she added.
“We do have a project we are making for PTO that needs to be completed by spring,” she exlained.
A request for student dues of $10 is optional.
So far the club involves junior high students, but if other students express a desire to join the club they can, Gill said.
“It’s really open to any student who wants to create art,” she said.
There are no elected officers for this club, and they meet every Thursday at 7 a.m. in Gill’s classroom.
Multicultural club is
source for information
Vanessa Taylor, the CCS  Spanish teacher, is the sponsor for the high school multicultural club along with co-sponsors Alecia Einspahr and Abigail Almanza.
The club held its first meeting Nov. 10. Club membership is designed to help multicultural students find more information about future plans and scholarship opportunities, said Taylor.
“The goals of the club are to help students connect with others, to provide information about scholarships and future plans and to help mentor younger students,” Taylor commented.
The club meets every other Wednesday at the school.
The only requirements to join are to stay involved, come to meetings and participate in club activities.
Elected club officers are Julian Juarez Gamboa, president; Gisselle Acuna, vice-president; Grisleydi Ortega-Ortega, treasurer; Raissa Nevarez, secretary: and Ashley Fregoso as liaison.
“The activities we are planning right now is the Cinco de Mayo festival, a dance and a Christmas family fun night,” Taylor said.
