Imperial railroad crossing project set to start Thursday

Weather permitting, a railroad crossing project will begin in Imperial on Thursday this week on Spur 15A, according to the Nebraska Department of Transportation.
The crossing repair work is being coordinated by the Nebraska Kansas Colorado Railway in anticipation of the NDOT’s Imperial to Champion paving project next year, said Kelly Doyle, District Operations and Maintenance Manager at the NDOT office in McCook.
The railroad has hired the contractor for the work, Doyle noted, which will include replacement of the rails and all of the ties, as well as new concrete panels that will replace the timber.
The railroad crosses Broadway at 2nd Street at the south edge of Imperial.
While the crossing work is underway, a detour will be in place using Highway 6, Adelaide and South Streets.
Motorists approaching on Broadway Street from the north will be detoured east on Hwy. 6 to Adelaide Street, then to South Street, taking them to Champion Spur 15A. Drivers approaching the crossing from Spur 15A will detour on the same streets the other way.
Railroad officials are expecting the work to take three days.
