Winter sports practice underway at CCS, WP

    Monday was the first day of winter practices for NSAA sports. Many teams did conditioning last week.
    The Wauneta-Palisade girls’ basketball team got in three days of conditioning last week, according to Head Coach Matt Cox, adding that he hopes that will help his team avoid any early season soreness.
    Cox said he expects to have around 17 players out this year.
    On the WP boys’ side, Jacob Pritchard takes over for Rod Gaston this season. Pritchard will be assisted by John Kershaw. WP should have 15 players once everyone gets healthy.
    Nine reported for wrestling this season at WP. Danny Schluckebier and Shad Wiese continue to lead the program.
    Chase County’s basketball and wrestling teams are showing some strong numbers with more than 70 athletes on the rosters. CCS head coaches in the respective sports report 27 out for boys’ basketball, 23 boys and two girls out for wrestling and 20 on the girls’ basketball team.
    Teams have three weeks of practices before competitions begin the first week of December.
    CCS basketball teams will travel to Cozad Dec. 2 then host McCook on Dec. 3.
    The Bronco basketball teams will host Wallace Dec. 2 and travel to Cambridge Dec. 3.
    WP’s wrestlers will hit the mat Dec. 3 in Elwood.
