‘Peace on Earth’ is Vision of Trees theme

The weekend has been chosen and theme selected for the 2021 Vision of Trees in Champion.
After no Vision of Trees last year, the Champion Woman’s Club has the event back on the schedule with all of the events as previous years.
“Peace on Earth” has been chosen this year’s theme on the weekend of Dec. 4-5 at the Champion Community Center.
People from the area are invited to decorate a tree for the display that fills much of the former gym. A number of other events over the two days include noon meals, a raffle, silent auction and visit from Santa Claus.
Santa’s visit on Saturday, Dec. 4, at 1:30 p.m. may be one of the first chances area children have to visit with the man from the North Pole. He’ll have gift bags for the children, according to Samie Johnson of the planning committee.
Other weekend events include free cookies, live music, a station for letters to Santa and homemade baked goods, wreaths and crafts for sale.
A potato bake luncheon will be served Saturday, while Sunday will offer homemade soup. Both meals will be $5 and start at 11 a.m.
Among the raffle and silent auction items are a quilt, other handmade items and a decorated tree by the Challengers 4-H Club.
Full hours for the Saturday, Dec. 4, events are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday hours will be 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Drawings start at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, and winners do not need to be present.
Those wishing to decorate a tree can contact Jessie Schmidt, 308-882-2995. Those wanting to donate items, call Emma Jenkins, 308-883-1460.
