Jayme Gittlein gets the Grand Champion handshake from judge Amanda Schnoor as her bull, JRG Hondo, is named Grand Champion in the FFA Percentage Simmental Bull class at State Fair.

Exhibitors in 4-H, FFA come home with State Fair honors

Chase County was well represented by its youths competing in the 4-H and FFA divisions at the Nebraska State Fair, which concluded Sept. 6.
Sixteen youths in 4-H had State Fair entries, while four FFA members from the Imperial and Wauneta chapters showed livestock and competed in showmanship classes.
Jayme Gittlein, an eighth grader at Chase County Schools, earned the handshake from the judge twice at the State Fair as she competed in the FFA division for beef.
She was named Grand Champion in the Percentage Simmental Bull class with a bull she raised named JRG Hondo. He is half Simmental and half Angus.
In addition, young Gittlein also took home Grand Champion honors in the junior high beef showmanship class.
Judge for the beef show was Amanda Schnoor of Modesto, California.
Also competing in FFA, Morayah Cupp went home with a pair of Reserve Champions in the purebred swine market gilt class.
While there were no Grand or Reserve Champions in the 4-H exhibit classes, several Chase County youths were awarded purple ribbons.
Here is the full list of 4-H and FFA results from the State Fair.
