Calf, steer riding added to fair’s mutton bustin’

Mutton Bustin’ is always a hit during the Chase County Fair, but this year’s event had a different look to it when calf and steer riding were added between the mutton bustin’ sessions.
The fair switched stock contractors after the 2019 fair.
New contractor Derry Mayfield said he had stock available for calf and steer riding and the fair board had planned on offering calf and steer riding in 2020.
Fair board member Caitlin Pollmann said there were kids still interested in riding after they got too big for mutton bustin’. Adding calf and steer riding answered that need.
With 19 signed up for calf riding and 10 for steer riding, Pollmann said those events will be back next year and it will be interesting to see how the events grow.
Mutton bustin’ drew 67 young riders who were divided up into three groups, but not separated by age or sex.
Buckles were awarded to the top six riders—RyDell Scott, Millianna May, Malcolm Hanes, Louden Brown, Koy Paisley and Trennin May.
Top results are as follows.
Mutton bustin’—1. RyDell Scott, 2. Millianna May, 3. Malcolm Hanes, 4. Louden Brown, 5. Koy Paisley, 6. Trennin May.
Calf riding—1. Isabella Crider, 2. Zoey Kelly, 3. Milinda Barrera.
Steer riding—1. Abby Spicer, 2. Miles Hanes; 3. Riley Fowler.
