Leibhart Poker Run benefit successful amid busy weekend

Last Saturday, Chase County was bustling with activity, and the ABATE Poker Run fundraiser for Brock Leibhart was right in the middle.
“We had a great turnout in spite of the busy weekend,” said Brad Dinnel, spokesman for the Poker Run.
The number of travelers ended up being around 50 participants on 31 motorcycles and four vehicles, he said.
“There were 43 registered for the poker run, but we picked up a few more from other towns during the ride,” said Dinnel.
“Brock Leibhart drove his pickup and pulled the ABATE trailer in case anyone broke down,” he added.
Once back in Imperial, everyone gathered at the VFW #4688 for a supper prepared and served by extended members of the Dan and Stacy Leibhart family (parents), Ron and Becky Berry (Brock’s grandparents) and Cecil family.
Following supper, which fed around 80 people, there was a live auction for over 30 donated items.
“We had two auctioneers—Preston Smith and Marlon Kunnemann,” Dinnel said.
Winning first place for his poker hand was Gaylin Prior from the Hastings area and Brock’s great-uncle.
Second place went to Darwin Warning on his birthday, no less, Dinnel said, with John Miller winning third.
“I want to thank ABATE-supporting businesses and all those who donated items for the auction, plus everyone who came to support the event—preparing the meal,  bringing desserts and money donations,” Dinnel said.
Other upcoming events include the annual Imperial Mayor’s Poker Run July 10, followed by the Mikey Ride Poker Run out of Wallace on July 17.
Funds from the Wallace Poker Run will be donated toward Leibhart’s medical expenses.
