Enders State Recreation Area to celebrate G&P’s 100 years in style

Enders State Recreation Area is putting on a 100-year anniversary extravaganza Saturday with a full day of events and entertainment for all ages.
The day will begin with a 5K run, said Beau Licking, park superintendent for Enders Lake Recreation Area.
Runners can pre-register by picking up a registration form at the Enders park office or contact Rose Cayer at Wauneta Crossroads in Wauneta.
“Runners can also register for the 5K at 6:30 a.m. Saturday morning before the race which starts at 7 a.m.,” said Licking.
There is a $20 entry fee per person for the race.
The semi-truck show, tractor show and car show are scheduled from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Registration for these events is at 7:30 a.m. that morning.
Show participants can pre-register by calling the park office at 308-394-5118, or register that morning.
“We already have a number of entries signed up now,” Licking said.
Dayna Scherbarth is a park employee and the main coordinator for the 100-year event.
“So far we have at least 11 trucks, 12 to 15 tractors, 12 to 15 crafters and 11 smoker entries signed up to be here,” Scherbarth said.
There is a whole list of free activities taking place throughout the day including the main event—a one-of-a-kind live trick shooting show by Gould Brothers at 3 p.m.
“We have had good response from the communities around the area with comments saying they are looking forward to the event this weekend—especially the Gould Brothers,” she said.
“The BBQ smoke-off has 11 teams signed up, so registration is now closed to that event,” Licking said.
Awards for the smoke-off will be presented at 5:30 p.m. with a BBQ tasting for the public at 6 p.m.—first-come-first-serve until the food is gone so come early, Licking said.
To close out the day of celebration, the Nebraska band Shooter Jaxx will perform from 7 to 10 p.m., said Licking.
It is suggested that people attending the event bring blankets or lawn chairs.
Coyote Country, 105.3 FM, will have a live remote at the extravaganza from noon to 2 p.m., and they are bringing the Spin & Win Jackpot machine with them, Scherbarth said.
She added that they will have four food vendors at the event plus Arlys Cupp’s Latte Da Specialty Drinks and Coffee truck selling beverages throughout the day.
Event entrance information
There are three main entrances to Enders Recreational Area, said Licking.
“Entrance to the day-long event will be at the lake’s northwest entrance by the railroad tracks. There will be signage to help direct traffic,” he said.
Park permits are required for entry into the area.
There will be volunteers  at the specified entrance where park permits will be available and attendees will be directing people to parking areas and event locations, Licking said.
The middle entrance to Enders Lake (across from the Enders Golf Course) will have limited entry on Saturday for exhibitors and staff only, Scherbarth said.
“We’re expecting at least 500 ‘non-camper’ attendees Saturday plus regular lake visitors,” she added.
All the events will be located along the front area between the “railroad” entrance and the main entrance.
“We’ve been planning this event for over a year, and things are going very well,” said Scherbarth.
The main goal is to have a good event for everyone to enjoy, she said.
“This whole celebration wouldn’t be possible without our sponsors and the help of our lead volunteers,” said Scherbarth.
The 100-year Extravaganza ad can be found on page 8 where a list of all activities, a map and the sponsors are given.
