Accidents don’t take vacation over Memorial Day holiday

Days leading up to the Memorial Day weekend and during it sent emergency personnel to a pair of accidents.
Ellie Jarecke, 19, of Culbertson went for additional treatment at a Kearney hospital following a car/deer collision May 27 between Enders and Wauneta on Highway 61.
The 8:22 p.m. accident last Thursday involved a 2015 Ford Explorer Jarecke was driving eastbound on the highway.
A report from Chase County Sheriff Kevin Mueller said a deer came out of the south ditch and was struck by the vehicle.
Mueller said the driver complained of a neck injury so she was transported to Chase County Community Hospital by Wauneta EMS.
They were assisted by the Wauneta Volunteer Fire Department.
After initial treatment, Jarecke was transferred to the Kearney hospital.
Estimated damage to the Explorer was $15,000, Mueller said.
On Sunday, Imperial police were called to JohNnie’s Laundromat in Imperial at West 4th and Court Streets, where a car had run into the building.
Police Chief Ryan Wisnieski said an underage, 14-year-old female was operating a 2005 Cadillac Escalade that hit the northwest corner of the laundromat about 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
She had mistakenly hit the gas pedal instead of the brake from the north parking lot, he said.
The driver had a bloody nose, he said, but refused an ambulance.
The car is registered to Yessenia Ayala of Imperial, he said.
There was minimal damage to the vehicle, Wisnieski said. The impact did not affect the structural steel frame, but did damage the interior and exterior structural wall of the laundromat.
Wisnieski said the investigation is continuing.
