Walker gets feet wet at state meet

Wauneta-Palisade’s Grant Walker got his first taste of the state track meet last week in Omaha.
Walker ran the 100 and 200 meter dashes.
WP Head Coach Dawn Doetker said it was a great experience for the junior.
Athletes faced rain showers throughout both days, but Doetker didn’t think the rain bothered Walker.
Walker ran both prelims May 19.
After a false start in Walker’s 100 prelim heat, runners lined up and tried again. Walker finished third and didn’t advance to finals. He placed 11th overall.
The 200 meter dash wrapped up the day’s Class D performances.
Walker ran 24.10 in his prelim, well off his PR of 23.33 from earlier in the season.
Doetker said Walker had great support from other members of WP’s track team.
After a year off from track, Doetker said it was awesome to finally have a track season with state to end a great year.
“I want to thank all of the coaches, parents and our community support,” Doetker said.
