CCS girls’ track team looking to make its mark at state meet

The Chase County girls’ track team is returning to Omaha with a full head of steam after a solid performance at last week’s district meet.
Qualifying for state are Kamrie Dillan, 100 and 200 meter dashes; Chloe Dillan, 100 and 200 meter dashes; Jordan Jablonski, pole vault; Jerzee Milner, 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles; Lucy Spady, 1,600 and 3,200 meter runs; Joee Clevenger, 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles; Kaylie Lotspeich, shot put; and Bryn McNair, 400 meter dash, 800 meter run and high jump.
All three relays also qualified after winning district championships. Running the 400 meter relay will be Milner, K. Dillan, C. Dillan and Jablonski.
K. Dillan, Jablonski, Ali McNair and B. McNair make up the 1,600 meter relay.
Runners in the 3,200 meter relay are Spady, Kora Weiss, A. McNair and Jablonski.
In all, the Chase County girls won every event at districts but the long jump, triple jump and discus.
Head Coach Troy Hauxwell said, though the day went well, it’s easy to get greedy and look back at the near misses.
Clevenger was an additional qualifier in both hurdles races, but Weiss missed out after a third place finish in the 800.
Athletes saw breezy conditions change to storms late in the day at Sutherland when lightning lit up the sky during the girls’ 1,600 meter run.
Looking over results from across the state, Hauxwell said several factors, such as weather or the way the meet is scheduled, can lead to varying performances.
In the end, Hauxwell says Longhorn athletes will represent the school and southwest Nebraska well in Omaha, whether on the track or off.
“Our team will compete to the best of their ability for themselves and their teammates,” Hauxwell said, adding, after that, what happens, happens.
Hauxwell said the team will control what they can in Omaha with attitude, effort and action.
No matter how the team performs, Hauxwell has loved the growth he’s seen from his athletes on and off the track. This team’s family mentality has left its mark on the coach.
