Imperial FFA ends year with awards, officer installation

It felt more “normal” at this year’s Imperial FFA banquet and awards program.
Saturday night’s event also served 155 for the meal, something absent last year due to COVID-19 restrictions.
While last year did include a small awards program, Imperial FFA Advisor Jason Speck said having this year’s event back to its regular format was welcomed.
And, numbers were up considerably for what the awards banquet averages in a normal year.
He said a large junior high FFA membership is one of the reasons. Normally, the chapter has about 12 seventh and eighth graders participate in FFA programs; this year those numbers are at 20. Ten to 12 of them and their families attended Saturday, he said.
A special feature during the program was outgoing state FFA vice president Jozie Schilke, an Imperial FFA member, who spoke to the group on the opportunities that COVID actually provided to FFA members, herself included.
Outgoing Imperial president Alexis Richmond gave her retiring address, encouraging FFA members to “be present” and more personally involved in what they do in FFA and in life.
Installation of the 2021-22 chapter officers concluded the program.
Here is a listing of awards announced Saturday evening.
