CCS girls win titles at CCS, Hershey Invites

It’s the same story, different week for the Chase County girls’ track team as weather has once more made adjustments to the team’s schedule.
The Longhorns got a chance to run on their own track last week, just a day later than expected.
After Saturday’s Hershey Invite, the team was scheduled to go to St. Francis, Kansas Tuesday this week for a meet to replace the cancelled Sutherland Invite. But the Kansas school postponed its meet due to impending weather.
CCS was scheduled to host its invite Arpil 20, but school officials delayed the event one day and athletes were able to enjoy a nicer day of weather.
Longhorn athletes set 21 PRs at their home meet.
CCS dominated the meet. Picking up wins were Kamrie Dillan, 100 meter dash; Bryn McNair, 400 meters and 800 meters; Lucy Spady, 1,600 and 3,200 meter runs; Jerzee Milner, 100 meter hurdles and 300 meter hurdles; Kaylie Lotspeich, shot put and discus; and Jordan Jablonski, pole vault. The 400 meter relay, 1,600 meter relay and powder puff relay. also took first.
Saturday CCS was at Hershey.
CCS Head Coach Troy Hauxwell said it was nice to leave with two meet records, the 1,600 meter relay and McNair in the 400, and were close to setting records in the 400 and 800 meter relays.
Winning events were Dillan, 100 and 200 meter dashes; McNair, high jump, 400 and 800 meters; Milner, both hurdle races; Lotspeich, shot put; and Jablonski, pole vault. All three relays placed first.
Younger Longhorn athletes were able to attend Monday’s McCook JV meet where CCS finished third as a team.
Up next
Hauxwell said he’s looking forward to more competition and the final part of the season.
With many athletes placing well at meets, Hauxwell said team members need to compete against themselves as individuals and make sure they are mentally prepared and ready to go.
“You are competing against yourself and trying to improve each week. It is nice when you have competition running next to you to help with the extra effort needed to lower your time.  In the field events you have to step in focused and ready to PR in your next throw, jump or vault,” Hauxwell said.
CCS will travel to Perkins County Friday for the SPVA conference meet.
Hauxwell is hopeful everyone is health and ready to go for the meet.
A flu bug has been working its way through the team. Several athletes were held out or saw limited action at Hershey.
“We will look at things for Friday and make a couple of adjustments,” Hauxwell said, adding coaches will try to be careful as the team needs everyone healthy heading into districts.
Left of Chase County’s schedule is the Best of the Midwest May 4 at Sutherland, the Dundy County-Stratton Twilight May 7 and districts at Sutherland May 13.
