CCS golf showing progress

The schedule, much like its team members, continues to be a work in progress for the Chase County golf team.
Meets at Bridgeport and Perkins County have been called off due to weather and the Southwest Invite at Cambridge’s Cross Creek Golf Links was added to the Longhorns’ schedule.
Despite a brutal day of weather at Cambridge, CCS Coach Marissa McDaniel was proud of how her team stepped up and faced the challenging weather and course head on.
“Cambridge had some rough weather, but my kids handled it well. It’s a really tough course, but I’m proud of how they played,” McDaniel said.
With only the April 6 Dundy County-Stratton Invite as experience, the team showed its improvement on their scorecards.
“Everyone who had golfed this year shaved off quite a few strokes and the ones that were competing for the first time this year did well,” McDaniel said.
Cambridge took the invite crown by 16 strokes over DCS. Medicine Valley, Hitchcock County, Wallace and Maywood/Hayes Center also joined the hosts, Southwest.
Cambridge’s Caleb Shaner won the meet on his home course with an 89.
Nickolas Rau was Chase County’s top finisher with a 117.
Cayden White carded a 123 with Markenna Terryberry following five stroke behind at 128.
Courtney Odens scored 142.
In JV competition, Annika McDaniel carded a 152.
CCS enjoyed a beautiful warm day for its own invite Monday at Enders Lake Golf Course.
McDaniel said the meet went very well and each golfer continued to show improvement.
After 59 out and 49 back in, Rau led the Longhorns with a score of 108 and a 10th place finish.
White, Terryberry and Brice Vitosh each carded a 114 on the day. Odens finished with a total of 123.
Sutherland’s Ty Monie won the meet with a score of 86.
Ogallala took the team title after shooting 371.
Also on hand were Perkins County, McCook and Hershey.

CCS will travel to Bridgeport Friday for the SPVA meet.
In her first year as coach, McDaniel said she’s not sure how tough the SPVA teams will be.
But, she’s extremely impressed with how much her golfers have all improved this year and she’s looking forward to the SPVA meet.
