CCS takes Outstanding Show Choir, two Best of Class awards at SPVA in Hershey

Chase County’s music department traveled to Hershey March 23 for the SPVA music contest.
“The students represented Chase County extremely well,” vocal director Jodie Liess said.
The CCS Show Choir received the Outstanding Show Choir trophy.
A mixed vocal trio and a girls duet received Best of Class Awards. Performers must receive a superior rating to be considered for Best of Class.
Vocal students received 14 superior, 10 excellent and two good ratings.
“We received a number of comments on how to improve and prepare for districts, but many compliments as well,” Liess said.
Band director Agnes Strand said it was a fun day, but a long one, as well. Some students left for Hershey at 5:30 a.m.
Band members received six superior and six excellent ratings.
Both directors appreciated the efforts of Rob Browning, who played the keyboard for many of the performances.
Browning played the keyboard for all four of the superior instrumental solos, as well as the vocal entries.
“He is an amazing accompanist and awfully fun to top it off,” she added.
    Liess echoed Strand’s sentiment.
“Rob adds so much musicality and energy to the performances. He is a valuable asset and a great second ear,” Liess said.
District music will be April 23 in Imperial. Liess expects the contest to be open to the public.
NSAA District Music Contest guidelines established Feb. 17 say attendance must be limited to 75% of occupancy and spectators are required to wear face coverings at all times.
Chase County will not have school April 23.
