WP to host blood drive Monday

The Frenchman Valley Chapter of the National Honor Society at Wauneta-Palisade Schools will be hosting a blood drive on Monday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
NHS members, seniors Kendra Bley, Zoey Boos, Faith Burton, Lillie Miner, Haylee Sandman, Haley Walker and Payton Yearous, and juniors Kate Parrish, Alexa Sandman and Grant Walker are recruiting donors.
Appointment slots are open. People interested in donating may also call the school to set up an appointment, 308-394-5427.
The Frenchman Valley Chapter started hosting blood drives three years ago and has held 17 drives.
Besides NHS members, advisor Betsy Johanson said many adults at school help out with various aspects of setting up, tearing down and by donating blood.
The American Red Cross has a High School Scholarship Program for schools that host at least one blood drive per year. In return for hosting a drive, the American Red Cross provides an educational scholarship paid to the student’s college or university.
The scholarship amount is based on the number of pints collected at that school’s blood drives during the spring, Jan. 16 to May 31, 2021; summer, June 1 to Aug. 31, 2021; and winter 2021-22: Dec. 15, 2021 to Jan. 15, 2022, with a minimum of 25 pints.
The Red Cross will give out 10 scholarships for this spring and summer drives and six for upcoming winter drives.
Red Cross blood donation safety protocols require face coverings or masks, six feet between beds, hand sanitizer to be available, temperature checks and wiping down donor touched areas.
