The Titan Machinery pickup, driven by Randy Wiest and hauling a combine header trailer, pulled over along Broadway, after the accident at the 12th and Broadway intersection to the north.
Accident on Broadway yields no injuries
Considering the vehicles involved and location, a Tuesday night accident at 12th and Broadway could have been worse.
Imperial Police Officer Rob Rusk said the 6:15 p.m. accident involved pickups driven by Peyton Dubas, 15, of Imperial and Randy Wiest, 43, of Benkelman.
Dubas, in a 1996 Ford F150 pickup with a female passenger along, was heading west on East 12th St., and was stopped at the stop sign at 12th and Broadway.
Officer Rusk said Dubas’ vision to the north was blocked by a pair of semi-trucks facing south and stopped, both planning to make left-hand turns onto East 12th.
The driver in the first semi waved Dubas across in front of him, and the 15-year-old proceeded.
He did not see the south-bound 2012 Dodge 5500 Titan Machinery pickup pulling a long combine header trailer, and the two collided as Dubas’ pickup was crossing Broadway.
The impact spun the Dubas pickup nearly 180 degrees, as it came to rest just past the intersection, facing northeast.
The Dubas pickup was impacted at its rear passenger side, where it sustained damage. The Titan pickup had front end damage.
Officer Rusk said the drivers and passenger were not injured. All were checked out on scene by Imperial EMS personnel, and both pickups were driven away.
Wiest in the Titan vehicle was traveling only about 25 mph, Officer Rusk said, which likely was a factor in the outcome.
Also on scene were a sheriff’s office deputy and the Imperial Volunteer Fire Department.
