CCS blood drive just short of goal

The American Red Cross blood drive last week at Chase County Schools (CCS) collected 72 units of blood, just short of the 78-unit goal.
First time donors were up with 10 new in attendance.
This blood drive was also testing for COVID-19 antibodies in the blood that indicated if the donor had ever had the COVID virus or was exposed to it at any time.
Sadie Peterson, CCS student representative for the drive, said people commented that it was interesting about the antibody testing, and are looking forward to getting the results.
“The majority of donors followed the directive to wear a mask. There were some that struggled with keeping them on and had to be reminded,” Peterson said.
Peterson said they supplied masks to about a quarter of the donors who attended.
The next blood drive will be Sept. 24 at the Imperial city gym from 12 noon to 6 p.m.
Cathy Carman, Account Manager II/Donor Recruitment for American Red Cross Blood Services in North Platte, said they will be testing for COVID antibodies again in September.
“Masks will, again, be mandatory by order of the CDC. This is a strong requirement with no exceptions,” Carman said.
The Red Cross wants everyone to be safe, she said.
The CDC is very strict on this directive, and the Red Cross will always err on the side of safety, she said.
They encourage donors to bring a mask when they donate.
