Father’s Day contest honors local dads

Father’s Day this year will be celebrated on Sunday, June 21.
The Imperial Republican’s annual Father’s Day photo contest is coming very soon.
Deadline for “My Father and Me” photo entries and corresponding information is Monday by 5 p.m.
The contest is open to all ages but limited to one entry per person.
Fathers must be a resident of Imperial, Enders, Champion, Lamar or the surrounding area.
Instructions for entering
This year, phone pictures will be accepted for the contest.
Technology has changed a lot during the last decade or so, and cameras in mobile phones are better than ever before.
More and more people rely on mobile phones for their photography.
Photos must be in jpeg format if emailing.
Photos must be accompanied by a photo credit along with names, addresses and phone numbers of the subjects in the photo.
Entering the contest gives the Imperial Republican the right to publish the photo.
Photos will be judged on quality of picture and creativity.

The winning photo and the runner up photo will appear in the June 18 issue of The Imperial Republican.
The winning photo will receive a two-year subscription to the Johnson Publications newspaper of their choice.
Runner-up photo will receive a one-year subscription to the Johnson Publications newspaper of their choice.
A little inspiration
Father’s Day is a day of honoring fatherhood and paternal bonds, as well as the influence of fathers in society.
Often forgotten are the sacrifices and contributions our fathers and male figures have made in our lives.
Father’s Day provides the opportunity to express our love, adoration and gratitude to these special people.
A woman named Sonora Smart Dodd wanted to give male parents the same special celebration that mothers received in May.
After gathering support, the first Father’s Day was celebrated in Washington state.
Following the start of WWII, Father’s Day was used to pay respects to the American troops.
In May 1972, President Richard Nixon signed an official proclamation declaring Father’s Day as a yearly national holiday beginning on June 18, 1972.
