Pool gets approval for June 16 opening

Swim season 2020 will also come free of charge

About a month earlier than originally thought, Imperial’s public swimming pool will open for the summer on Tuesday, June 16.
Imperial city council members approved the opening date along with a number of other guidelines at a meeting via Zoom Monday.
Nebraska Gov. Pete Ricketts originally had a pool opening date of July 15 in his Directed Health Measures (DHMs).
However, last month Ricketts moved that up to June 1 as he approved putting Phase II measures in place for most of the state.
On a recommendation from Mayor Dwight Coleman, the following list was also approved in the council’s 4-0 vote on the pool opening:
    * No admission charge this summer.
    * Open Monday through Friday only, and includes night swimming. Closed Saturdays and Sundays.
    * No private or group swim lessons.
    * Bathrooms and high-touch surfaces to be cleaned every two hours.
    * Only prepackaged food items sold at concession stand.
    * Six foot spacing per Governor’s guidelines.
In addition, the council approved Coleman’s recommendation the pool be shut down for the rest of the summer should someone who frequents the pool, or a lifeguard, is diagnosed with COVID-19.
One of the Governor’s guidelines was to keep six-foot spacing both as people sit on the deck and swim in the water.
