Donations ensure patients receive life-saving blood

The American Red Cross will hold a community blood drive at the Imperial city gym Friday, May 22, from 12 noon to 6 p.m.
The goal is at least 70 units of blood, said Emma Jenkins, blood drive coordinator.
Every day, the American Red Cross helps patients battling disease, illness and injury.
The generosity of blood donors can help make sure patients have access to blood.
During these uncertain times, donors are asked to make an appointment and help save a life, said a spokesman for the American Red Cross.
To make an appointment to donate blood, a free app can be downloaded at RedCross Blood.org or call 1-800-RED-CROSS (1-800-733-2767).
Face masks required
The Red Cross follows the highest standards of safety and infection control, and volunteer donors are the only source of blood for those in need.
For the safety of the donor community, and in accordance with CDC guidelines, all donors are required to wear a face covering or mask.
“Please bring one to your blood donation. If you do not have one, a mask will be provided to you,” stated an American Red Cross spokesperson.
Make a plan to donate blood for patients in need, and you can help honor the frontline workers who are bravely and selflessly caring for others during this time, officials said.
Take time to give blood between May 15-31 and donors may be able to receive a limited edition Red Cross T-shirt in the mail while supplies last.
Volunteers needed
“We are in need of volunteers to give an hour or two  of their time to help as attendants to assist blood donors during the drive,” said Jenkins.
