Red Cross makes plea for extra blood donors, CCS delivers

Last Thursday, Chase County Schools (CCS) sponsored a Red Cross blood drive.
“The unit goal was 80, and we obtained seven over goal for 87 units,” said Angie Paisley, school nurse and CCS blood drive coordinator.
Red Cross had a bloodmobile scheduled in Grand Island last week that had to cancel due to bad weather.
The Red Cross put out a plea to Paisley to do what she could to get as many donors as possible.
Normally this time of year it’s hard to meet the goal, she said.
“We just had the normal radio spots announcing the blood drive, Facebook postings and a lot of word-of-mouth,” Paisley said.
Out of the 87 units donated, 16 were Power Red donors with six new student blood donors, she said.
“The blood drive team is very appreciative for the support of all those that showed up, taking the time from their jobs and daily schedules to donate,” said Paisley.
She also wanted to thank employers for allowing their employees time off from work to donate blood.
“The Red Cross is always very complimentary of our community and its support of the blood drives here,” she added.
