Donors told ‘thank-you’ for support of MPCC $925,000 expansion project

Local donors who have financially supported the expansion project at Mid-Plains Community College (MPCC) were guests at an appreciation luncheon Dec. 3.
While receiving thanks from college officials, the group also heard an update on the $925,000 expansion project expected to be bid early next year.
Bonnie Kruse, MPCC director of institutional advancement, told donors, “This is really the community’s campus.”
All of the college officials emphasized programs at their four campuses in Imperial, Broken Bow, Ogallala and Valentine are geared toward what the community wants.
“We’re here to serve the community,” said Brenda Ledall, Imperial campus coordinator.
The near 2,500-square-foot addition will be built on the north end of the current facility at 1324 Broadway. Two new classrooms and a multi-purpose room will be added there, as will new restrooms, a mechanical room and a storage room.
At the same time, the south end of the building will be remodeled to include a simulation lab, which will be outfitted thanks to in-kind equipment donations from Chase County Community Hospital. It will mirror a hospital room.
The project will go to bid in February 2020, with one to be accepted in March, according to MPCC officials. They hope to break ground in April.
The goal is to complete the project by fall 2021.
The expansion project includes paving of the east parking lot, which is now gravel.
In addition to MPCC’s contribution toward the $925,000 cost of the project, funding came from the City of Imperial, the Chase County Board of Commissioners, donations from several local businesses and organizations and the William and Ruth Scott Family Foundation of Omaha.
